As head of finance and operations at Formation Capital, Scott Brown has overall responsibility for private fund structuring and investment operations including fund administration, cash management, financial reporting and controls, tax compliance, SEC/RIA policies and procedures, and IT infrastructure and security. Additionally, Scott is actively involved in asset management, transactions, and as board member on various portfolio companies. In addition, he serves as the Chief Financial Officer, the Chief Compliance Officer, and board member of Formation Capital and chairs the valuation and compliance committees.
Prior to joining Formation Capital in 2007, Scott served in various executive-level corporate finance, general management, and private equity advisory positions.
Scott earned a BS in mechanical engineering with high distinction from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Senior Vice President, Acquisitions
Devin Battiston is a Senior Vice President focused on investments across facility-based healthcare and healthcare services, as well as leading the firm’s healthcare innovation strategy.
Prior to joining Formation Capital in 2012, Devin worked for Bank of America Merrill Lynch focused on leveraged and investment grade capital markets and advising sponsors on financing strategies for asset heavy companies with over $30 billion of transaction experience
David Russ has been active in private equity, acquisition finance and lending for the past 20 years. As President, David provides senior management leadership to all aspects of Formation Capital and oversees its investment efforts including acquisitions and asset management. Since joining Formation Capital in 2010, David was instrumental in the firm’s growth in healthcare real estate and expansion into private equity investments in post-acute care service companies.
Prior to joining Formation Capital in March 2010, David enjoyed a ten-year investment banking career in New York including eight years with Bear Stearns and two years with RBC Capital Markets. His experience focused on acquisition finance and included more than $30 billion of transactions across various industries including healthcare, aerospace and defense, consumer products and technology.
David has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, an MBA from Duke University and a BA from the Honors program at Vanderbilt University with majors in mathematics and French.
Arnold Whitman is founder and Chairman of Formation Capital. Over the past 20 years, Arnie has strategically led Formation Capital in its growth and execution of over $8.5 billion in transactions.
Arnie is also a founding partner in Generator Ventures, a leading venture firm focused on the intersection of innovation and aging. He is also a partner with Aging 2.0, a global platform and community for innovators, providers, distributors, and investors focused on solutions for aging and seniors.
Arnie is a former board member and Chairman emeritus of the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing and Care (NIC). He is a current board member of Genesis Healthcare, HC-One in the U.K., ASHA, Care Institute, Vynca, and Chronic Care Management, Inc.
Charity Simmons joined Formation Capital in November 2016 as an Accounting Manager. She is primarily responsible for all financial accounting and reporting of assigned Formation portfolios.
Prior to joining Formation Capital, Charity worked as a Senior Accountant at Euramax International, a building products manufacturer. Her duties included SEC financial statement reporting, consolidations, and other corporate accounting functions. Prior to that time, she worked at Pricewaterhouse Coopers as an auditor in the Private Company Services group.
Charity Simmons graduated with a BBA in Finance and Economics from Bryan College and an MBA in Accounting from Kennesaw State University.
Associate, Asset Management
Morgan joined Formation Capital in 2017 as a member of the Asset Management Group. She is responsible for investor relations and financial analysis and reporting.
Prior to joining Formation, Morgan worked for EY in their Assurance practice, specializing in financial services clients.
Morgan is a graduate of The University of Georgia, where she received a BBA in Accounting and also received her Master of Accountancy from the Terry College of Business.
Vice President, Asset Management
Carrie Rasca is responsible for asset management, cash management, and portfolio reporting. Prior to joining Formation Capital in 2013, Carrie worked at Hudson Advisors as Assistant VP working on debt restructuring, asset recovery and Controller for the Senior Housing portfolio. She began her career with Holiday Retirement and provided a significant role in the restructure of Sunwest Management.
Carrie earned her BS in Business from Western Oregon University.
David Rihner joined Formation Capital in January 2016 as Portfolio Group Controller. His primary duties involve oversight of all accounting aspects of assigned Formation portfolios including financial reporting, on-boarding new portfolios, oversight of purchase price allocation projects, directing audit engagements, and other special projects as needed.
David has over 15 years of accounting experience. Prior to Formation, he served as Director of Property Accounting at Signature Office REIT and its predecessor company Wells Real Estate Funds, Inc. Prior to that time, he was an Associate Director in Mobility Network Finance at AT&T and held various Finance and Accounting positions at AT&T/Cingular Wireless.
David graduated with a BS in Accounting from William Carey University and a MBA from Kennesaw State University.
Nela Powell joined Formation Capital in 2014. Her responsibilities include the implementation and monitoring of the compliance training and management systems, as well as supporting various compliance and legal-related projects.
Prior to joining Formation Capital, Nela worked in the litigation department of a real estate firm. Her job responsibilities included working alongside the Litigation Compliance Management team as well as Associate and Managing Attorneys to ensure compliance and adherence to both firm and client directives. Nela also spearheaded the drafting and implementation of the Litigation and Eviction Department’s Policies and Procedures Manuals.
Nela earned her BS in Biology from Georgia State University and obtained her Paralegal Certification from the University of Georgia’s Paralegal Certificate Program.
CPA, Senior Vice President, Portfolio Finance and Accounting
Joe McDurmont joined Formation Capital in 2014 as the Vice President of SEC Reporting and Compliance with a heavy focus on supporting Formation’s SEC registrant joint venture partners. He is also responsible for overseeing the purchase price accounting for all new investments, financial reporting (both internal and external), audits, internal controls/SOX compliance, technical accounting research and administration of the company’s report writing system.
Joe has over 20 years of accounting experience. Prior to Formation, he served as Vice President of Accounting at Columbia Property Trust and its predecessor company Wells Real Estate Funds. Prior to that time, Joe was a Financial Manager with Trammell Crow Co., with CFO responsibility for the company’s Atlanta real estate operations. He also previously served as Director of Partnership Reporting and Controls for HEALTHSOUTH Corp., and as Senior Accounting Manager for Cingular Wireless.
Joe graduated from Georgia State University with a BBA in Accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Georgia Society of CPAs.
Inessa Loyevska joined Formation Capital in March 2015 as a Senior Accountant for the Eclipse Portfolio. Her primary duties include oversight and management of all areas relating to accounting and financial reporting of the Eclipse portfolio as well as SOX compliance.
Prior to joining Formation, Inessa worked as a Senior Accountant for Alliant Health Solutions, a not-for-profit Government sub-contractor and as a Property Accountant for Consulate Management Company.
Inessa received BA in Accounting from Georgia State University in 2012 and Master in Accounting from Kennesaw State University in 2015.
Michael Landers joined Formation Capital in 2015 as an Accounting Manager and is primarily responsible for all financial accounting and reporting related to multiple portfolios.
Prior to joining Formation Capital, Michael worked in public accounting as an auditor, tax accountant, and consultant as well as in private industry as an assistant controller at an industrial wholesaler.
Michael graduated from Kennesaw State University with a BS in Information Systems and is a Certified Public Accountant. He is also a member of the Georgia Society of CPAs.
Deborah Reed Johnson joined Formation Capital in March 2015. Her primary duties include cash management, accounts payable, and portfolio accounting. Prior to joining Formation Capital, Deborah was part of the accounting and finance team at Primary Capital Mortgage, a publicly traded residential mortgage lender and servicer.
Deborah earned her BA in Accounting from Georgia State University and received her MBA from Brenau University in 2017.
CPA, Vice President, Portfolio Tax
Eugenia Hobbs joined Formation Capital in 2013. As Tax Manager, her responsibilities include managing the tax compliance process, reviewing and filing federal, state, local and property tax returns, projections for quarterly estimates, communication with investors and tax authorities, tax planning and research.
Eugenia began her accounting career with a small UK-based company that organized medical conferences around the world. While earning additional educational credits for her CPA, she got interested in tax and joined Ernst & Young where she worked on expatriate and foreign resident taxation before moving to the real estate group at Pricewaterhouse Coopers. During her 4-year tenure with PwC, Eugenia worked on a variety of clients in real estate and private investment companies. In addition, prior to joining Formation Capital, she worked for a regional real estate fund and solely managed all tax compliance functions for its corporate tax department.
Eugenia received a Bachelor of Arts in Teaching English and French from the Moscow State Pedagogical University in Moscow, Russia, and she earned her MBA and Master of Taxation from Georgia State University. She is a certified public accountant in the state of Georgia.
Anna Moran-Eden joined Formation Capital in May 2013. She is the Executive Assistant and runs the daily office operations and management of the Atlanta headquarters.
In her time at the company, Anna has served as the Project Coordinator and Data Integrity Manager for the internal clinical group where her responsibilities included management of QIC, creation of the clinical group client billing system, and the planning and coordination of the annual Executive Advisory Council meetings.
Previously, Anna worked as the Executive Assistant to the EVP of Human Resources and Risk Management departments for SavaSeniorCare, and as the New Accounts Manager for OakBrook Financial Group / Penn Mutual Insurance Company.
Senior Vice President, Finance & Operations
Katherine joined Formation Capital in March 2015 as Vice President of Finance & Administration. She is responsible for the books and records of Formation Capital, cash management and treasury administration for corporate and portfolio accounts, as well as fund setup and administration.
Prior to Formation Capital she was the Vice President & Treasurer at HD Supply, one of the largest industrial distributers in North America, Katherine spent 10 years with Caraustar Industries in various finance and accounting roles and started her career as an auditor for Deloitte & Touche LLP.
Katherine is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, Association of Financial Professionals, CFO Leadership Council, and the Corporate Treasurers Council. She is an actively licensed CPA and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a major in Accounting.
Data Integrity Manager
Ms. Tadros joined Formation Healthcare Group as a Data Integrity Manager after previously working with the team as an independent contractor. In addition to her long term care regulatory work experience with FHG, Ms. Tadros has over 9 years of experience in the finance and banking industry where she served in a management role with experience in auditing, fraud/risk management, customer service, and data analysis.
Ms. Tadros studied at Georgia Perimeter College and is currently enrolled at Georgia State University studying Business Administration.
Mr. Mitchell joined Formation Healthcare Group as a Data Analyst/Data Integrity Manager. He brings with him over 20 years of experience in the Healthcare IT field as a Software Support Analyst and most recently as a Developer IT Analyst. He has previous background in the Insurance and Banking industries.
Mr. Mitchell earned a B.S in Information Science & Data Processing from University of Louisville.
Ms. Livingston, MHA, BSN, RN is Assistant Vice President of Clinical and Regulatory Monitoring. Prior to joining FHG, she held the position of Senior Director of Compliance with Kindred Healthcare. Ms. Livingston has over 20 years of experience in healthcare and compliance, including risk management and Corporate Integrity Agreements. Other positions held include CMS Certified Surveyor, Director of Nursing, Regional and District Nurse Consultant, Clinical Quality and Chief Compliance Officer. She has extensive experience in providing clinical, regulatory and compliance oversight and monitoring to include education, presentations, policy and procedure development and revision, and exclusion monitoring.
Ms. Livingston obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Austin Peay State University and her Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Phoenix.
Managing Director, Formation Healthcare
Ms. Fedun, RN, BSN is Managing Director, co-leading Formation Healthcare Group (FHG), Formation Capital’s in-house clinical advisory team that specializes in assessing, analyzing and monitoring quality and regulatory measures of senior housing and long-term care operations. FHG plays a critical role in Formation Capital’s underwriting and investment management process.
Ms. Fedun has over 20 years of experience in long term care serving as a Director of Nursing, Regional Nurse, and Clinical Consultant with a large accounting firm. Prior to joining FHG, she worked as a risk analyst supporting the underwriting of long term care professional liability coverage utilizing statistical models, data analysis and clinical expertise. She has extensive experience in CCRC and SNF operational analysis, survey and regulatory compliance, due diligence, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement systems, and quality improvement processes and programs.
Ms. Fedun received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Waynesburg University
Ms. Curtis is Managing Director, co-leading Formation Healthcare Group (FHG), Formation Capital’s in-house clinical advisory team that specializes in assessing, analyzing and monitoring quality and regulatory measures of senior housing and long-term care operations. FHG plays a critical role in Formation Capital’s underwriting and investment management process.
Prior to joining Formation Healthcare Group, Ms. Curtis managed Decision Support and Managed Care Contracting for a hospital system. Her experience also includes regulatory monitoring for drug enforcement administration and compliance in the pharmaceutical industry, as well as conducting healthcare claims research as a statistician for the state of South Carolina.
Ms. Curtis is a Certified Healthcare Financial Professional and Certified Revenue Cycle Associate by the Healthcare Financial Management Association, as well as a charter member of the QuickBase Advisory Board.
Ms. Curtis earned a B.S. in Mathematical Sciences from Clemson University.
Kimberly Cox, RN, IP-BC, GDCN joined Formation Healthcare Group as a Clinical and Regulatory Manager. She has 10+ years combined experience in both the ALF and SNF setting. Prior to joining FHG, she served as a Director of Nursing and Corporate Quality Assurance nurse for a LTC company and then subsequently was promoted to the Vice President of Clinical Services. During her tenure as VP of Clinical Services, she developed policies and procedures, programs, conducted due diligence for potential acquisitions, survey and regulatory compliance monitoring, and provided oversight to a team of regional clinical and dietary personnel. Ms. Cox has also conducted presentations as a guest speaker on AOC/POC development in annual facility trainings for the state of TN.
Ms. Cox obtained her Associates Degree in Nursing from Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College. She is also a board certified Infection Preventionist and a geriatric diabetic certified nurse.
Ms. Allison, RN, MSN, NE-BC is Assistant Vice President of Clinical and Regulatory Monitoring. She has 15+ years of experience as a clinician. She has broad clinical experience in the Assisted Living, Long- Term Care and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) industry. Prior to joining FHG she held leadership positions including Director of Nursing and Regional Nurse. She has extensive experience providing clinical and regulatory oversight in Senior Housing and IDD Services.
Ms. Allison obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Winston Salem State University and her Master of Science in Nursing from Western Carolina University with a concentration in Nursing Administration. She also holds certification as a board-certified nurse executive.
Managing Director, Formation Lending Group
Ashish Shah joined Formation Capital in 2015 as part of launching Formation Lending Group (FLG). Ashish leads business development and managing capital markets activities.
Prior to joining Formation, Ashish was a Senior Director at Oxford Finance in a business development and capital markets role. Previously, he has also worked at GE Healthcare Financial Services and Heller Financial in business development and underwriting roles.
Ashish holds a BBA in Finance from the University of Iowa and a MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Darren Margulis joined Formation Capital in 2015 to co-launch the Formation Lending Group. Darren leads Risk and Portfolio Management for the platform.
Prior to joining Formation, Darren was Executive Director at Oxford Finance in a similar role. Previously, he has also worked at GE Healthcare Financial Service and Heller Financial in various credit roles focused on both Healthcare Services and Real Estate.

Svan Valsson joined Formation Capital in 2017 as an Analyst on the Asset Management team. He is responsible for investor relations and financial analysis and reporting.
Prior to joining Formation, Svan was a part of the Strategic Finance group at Northside Hospital and the Corporate Finance group at Cox Enterprises.
Svan is a 2015 graduate of Georgia State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Economics.
Matt Sedgwick is involved in all aspects of Formation Capital’s acquisition efforts including origination, structuring and execution as well as strategic initiatives for portfolio companies. Prior to joining Formation Capital in October 2017, Matt was Senior Vice President of Finance for Capstone Logistics, a third party logistics provider where he was responsible for reporting, analysis, treasury, accounting, budgeting, acquisition due diligence and integration. Previously Matt worked at MBF Healthcare Partners, in the healthcare group at GE Capital and in investment banking at Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs.
Matt earned his BBA with honors from the University of Georgia and a MAcc from the University of Texas at Austin.

Arthur Mallard joined Formation Capital in 2015 as an Analyst on the Acquisitions team. He is responsible for analysis and execution of acquisition transactions.
Prior to joining the company, Arthur worked in the Syndicated & Leveraged Finance group at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey in Atlanta, GA as an Investment Banking Analyst.
Arthur is a 2011 graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology, where he studied Finance at the Scheller School of Business.

Sheryl Marcet is involved in all aspects of Formation Capital’s acquisition efforts including origination, structuring and execution as well as strategic initiatives for portfolio companies.
Prior to joining Formation In September 2017, she held a similar business development role at Omega Healthcare Investors. She began her healthcare career at GE Healthcare Financial Services and Heller Financial in a credit role focused on both Healthcare Services and Real Estate.
Sheryl has served on the board of the American Senior Housing Association (ASHA) and various committees for the National Investment Center for the Senior Housing and Care Industry (NIC).
Sheryl holds a BS from Southern Illinois University and an MBA from DePaul University.
Chris O’Dekirk joined Formation Capital in January 2017 as an Associate on the Acquisitions team. He is responsible for analysis and execution of acquisition opportunities.
Prior to joining Formation, Chris worked as an Associate at EDG Partners, a lower middle market, healthcare private equity firm, where he focused on screening, execution, and oversight of EDG’s investments. Prior to his role at EDG, Chris worked at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey in the Healthcare Investment Banking group.
Chris is a 2012 graduate of the University of Georgia, where he received a BBA in Finance and a BS in Mathematics.
Senior Vice President, Operating Company Asset Management
Grant Johnston is responsible for the ongoing management of operating company investments, including portfolio compliance, investor relations, execution of growth strategies and profit optimization.
Prior to joining Formation Capital, Grant worked in GE Capital Healthcare Financial Services’ leverage lending group for six years, most recently as a Vice President focused on underwriting and portfolio management. Before joining GE HFS, Grant was an Associate in GE Capital’s Risk Management Leadership Program. He began his career as a small business banking and retail branch manager at Wells Fargo Bank.
Grant earned a BA in Spanish and a BA in Business Management from North Carolina State University, an International MBA with a concentration in Finance and Spanish from the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina and a Masters of Accounting from North Carolina State University.
Managing Director, Asset Management
Stephanie Hamner is responsible for asset management, fund administration, portfolio compliance and investor reporting. Prior to joining Formation Capital in 2012, she worked in GE Healthcare Financial Services’ real estate group for six years, most recently as a Vice President concentrating on underwriting and portfolio management. Prior to joining GE HFS, Stephanie was the Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis at CNBC and a Senior Investment Analyst for GE Capital.
Stephanie earned her BA in Economics with honors from Vanderbilt University.
Senior Vice President, Asset Management
Cory Bennett joined Formation Capital in 2015. As a member of the Asset Management Group, he is responsible for managing property portfolios, ROI initiatives, lender and investor relations and financial reporting and analysis.
From 2009 to 2015, Cory was a Relationship Manager in the Homebuilder Corporate Banking Group at Wells Fargo Bank where he provided enterprise and project-level banking solutions to the largest homebuilders in the United States. In 2008, he worked at Wachovia Bank as a Risk Advisor on the Credit Grading Methodology team in Charlotte, North Carolina. Cory started his career in 2006 as a Risk Analyst at Wachovia in Atlanta, Georgia.
Cory received a BS in Global Economics and Modern Language with a focus in Spanish from Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University.
Chief Executive Officer
Brian Beckwith has been active in healthcare mergers, acquisitions, investing and lending for the past 19 years in the United States and Europe. Since Brian joined Formation Capital as CEO in 2011, the firm has expanded its investment strategy to include new private equity investments in service companies for post-acute care, launched a mezzanine debt platform, and continued to invest equity in healthcare real estate, investing approximately $4.5 billion in total.
Before joining Formation, Brian led the lending and investing efforts for healthcare real estate and senior housing for GE Capital, where he also oversaw $7 billion in loans and investments. Prior to that role, from 2005 through 2008, he led the risk team and then the entire healthcare lending and investing operations for GE Capital in Europe. Based in London, he invested in healthcare real estate, provided senior debt to private equity sponsored healthcare services companies, and provided equipment leasing throughout Europe. Additionally, Brian led new deal underwriting and portfolio management for GE Capital’s domestic healthcare lending operations from 1998. Prior to joining GE Capital, he spent 6 years with an Atlanta-based valuation consulting firm with a focus on healthcare and with Delta Air Lines’ Capital Markets group.
Brian serves, or has served, on the boards of the American Senior Housing Association (ASHA), the National Investment Center for the Senior Housing and Care Industry (NIC), and the Alumni Board of the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia. He is an active speaker for ASHA, NIC and many other industry organizations.
Mr. Beckwith is a graduate of the University of Georgia (BBA) and Georgia State University (MBA).
